חזון הפרוייקט
Thanks to everyone for today.
I wanted to throw some idea for a more concrete project we can engage in. Its kind of wild but I think that given the breadth of qualifications and expertise in our group it might be a good project for all of us. It is also something that combines my passion to design something that works with doing something useful for the community.
A few years back when I started thinking of online platforms for organizations, I was more interested in political/protest organization (this was before the occupy/ohalim movements) and how to use the internet as a subculture to undermine the establishment. I had the idea of doing something in Israel about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. My idea then was to form an URU-like website that would connect israeli's and Palestinians to engage in dialogue, cooperation and political action towards a solution. In particular I had the, somewhat controversial, idea of forming an internet Dual-national state for which citizenship (and online passports) would be given for both Palestinians and Israelis and the internet nation (with its institutions) will serve as a way to create a political movement that could later influence outcomes. The idea was that creating a virtual nation would from the get go pitch the online community in terms of a uniting feature rather than as a conflict with two sides.
The idea was to design a website that would:
1. Somehow imply that the interactions between people don't just fall under the Israelis Vs Palestinian dimension of interaction. This is an extremely challenging feat given the ideological, cultural, lingual differences.
2. Include some social network aspect that would help to create networks of communication and interactions that cross demographic differences.
3. Include institutions and political processes that would result in political action.
For me this seems like a challenging and potentially fruitful endeavor that includes many of the things we discussed. It can focus our discussions and includes many different aspects to its design for which each of us could find something they want and can contribute to. I think it is also large enough a project so that we can divide it up to several smaller projects that we can form teams to work on.
