Amir Khan and WBC welterweight titlist Danny Garcia will undergo drug testing from USADA for their July 14 fight in Las Vegas, to be televised live by HBO.

Come July 7 at UFC 148, Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen will have their rematch, and the rest of us will get to see if it lives up to the anticipation. It has all the necessary prerequisites: trash talk, bad blood, national pride, and two men who gave us one heck of a fight the last time around.

USADA is the organization that was brought into pro boxing by Floyd Mayweather, but to date they've only done Mayweather fights. The recent popped tests of Lamont Peterson and Andre Berto were caught by VADA, an organization that Golden Boy Promotions is now apparently distancing itself from, and since Golden Boy is the only promotional company routinely using extra drug testing in boxing, that means VADA could be essentially elbowed out.

But as usual, we proceed with a healthy bit of caution. After all, we’ve been burned before.

USADA is more expensive, and some argue that VADA is more extensive. GBP and VADA had a big disagreement with how the Peterson case was handled, which led to Richard Schaefer calling them "unprofessional and disrespectful." VADA argued that they had no legal right to tell Golden Boy of the failed test earlier than they did, and that the process played out as it normally would.

Just because a fight is highly anticipated doesn’t mean it will be great: Ken Shamrock vs. Dan Severn II, Rashad Evans vs. Quinton Jackson and many others remind us of that fact.

USADA was recently contracted to do testing for the Winky Wright vs Peter Quillin fight on short notice, but then removed themselves from that fight and destroyed the taken samples.

Of course, when we’re counting down the days until the big scrap, we don’t think of the fights that didn’t live up to the hype, we think about the bouts that did, or at least did their best.
