Long Term Care and the Sandwich Generation

Long term care is the 800 pound gorilla in the family room. I hear about it in the line in the grocery store, within the elevator, in the mall, at church and on videos. Everyone my maturity is facing it, and it isn't ours we are facing, today.

I am of the age group known as the boomer or sandwich generation. Sandwich meaning we've responsibilities for multiple members of the family. However, we are not the first to be faced with this phenomenon, when you are boomers, we are probably the first to attach a reputation to this huge predicament.

Boomers have altered the paradigms with which we address dilemmas in many arenas and I think we'll rewrite our understanding about this one.

Here are some of the problems.

Our wonderful health care system, good food and several modern conveniences have contributed to an existence expectancy which is more than ever. Therefore during the last of our healthy and productive years, when we ought to be saving that last bit of money we will need in the future, or paying off our mortgages, or recuperating from losses in the stock market, traveling or enjoying our grandchildren, a lot of us have parents who're still living, despite the fact that less strong because they were in the past, continue to be healthy. At the same time we've adult children who are building their very own futures and families and need a little help occasionally.

John Vespucci

While reflecting upon the prior generations and how they took care of one another, I came to the realization our ancestors, in addition to living closer together, had businesses of their own, while most people today have careers that take us for an office, factory, hospital or school building. Our grandparents were active participants in the free enterprise system owning farms, stores, ranches, as well as other type of business. The reason a lot of us are having trouble, is the fact that we do not own our own businesses. Very few jobs offer flexibility of time and place allowing involvement in multigenerational obligations and privileges.

That's the reason I began looking for a career that will permit me to work around my Type A personality requires and doing this round the needs of a multigenerational family.

What provided that chance to me?

It was the internet and having an internet business. Having an internet business gives flexibility of both some time and space to be involved in the lives of a 92-year-old or perhaps a 6-year-old and each age in-between.

Building your own business advertising online will permit you to be in which you need to be when you need to be there together with having the ability to support yourself while doing so. Whatever product you're selling, working on-line opens many avenues of flexibility for you.
