Five Tips for an excellent Visit to Tijuana
Tijuana is the self proclaimed "most visited city on the planet." Since the 1920s tourists have poured over the border Twenty minutes south of North park to obtain a taste of Mexico. The city has seen a clear, crisp increase in violent crime in recent years and as a result tourism has dropped. However, a large number of day trippers still cross the border each month to enjoy the tacos and haggle in the shops. Here are five tips to make your next visit to Tijuana a smooth one.
Park in the U.S. Assuming you aren't buying large objects like furniture, intend on parking your vehicle around the U.S. side from the border and walking into Mexico. This avoids difficulties of getting Mexican car insurance and the dangers of driving inside a foreign country with different laws than you may be accustomed to. There are many parking lots across the border. All of them are comparable charging anywhere from seven to nine dollars during the day. We usually park in the large one on the corner located for your right (West) when you go ahead and take "Last U.S. Exit" on I-5 or I-805. Don't exchange money. There is really no reason for you to change your dollars into pesos despite the numerous exchange houses that line both sides of the border. Contrary to public opinion, the merchants prefer dollars and you will actually wind up paying more for items should you go with pesos.
Don't get drunk. Since the prohibition era Tijuana has been the area for Americans in Los angeles to go to throw back some cheap beers. Unfortunately, everyone from bartenders to, taxi drivers, to cops make the most of drunk Americans everyday, often pushing them to ATMs and forcing them to withdraw all available cash. Also, driving drunk will get you in a Mexican jail for a long period so don't think about this. Avoid dangerous places. Revolution Avenue is where all of the tourist shops are and you should never leave that street. The cross streets are all numbered and you should try to stay between second and eleventh. If land marks are simpler to remember stay south from the aluminum arch and north of the Jai Alai stadium. Beyond this zone could be dangerous, especially at night. Get back early. Ideally try to make it to the border by dark. If you are going with friends for an evening of fun, aim for before midnight. The early day are when people get taken advantage of the most. Should you included a group make sure everyone travels back together.
