Metallica and no selling out

When i was eighteen i keep in mind my brother coming back home in California with a new cd from a band referred to as Metallica: kill them all. The sound had been also avant gardiste for me at the beginning. I wan in to the regular deep purple, Kiss, Aerosmith rock.

Then i read the Metallica stories and interviews in French rock magazines. Metallica was  pretty much completly unknows in the USA. But Metallica ahad slightly following in Europe, specifically the scandinavian countries, Germany and France. The interviewers were asking James hatefiels, kirk hamett, cliff burton and lars ulrich why would they not alter their music to possess far more airplay and sell more cd's and be accepted by the general audiences?    

Then Metallica answered, that they're going to not sell out, they would rather die and quit playing music than play hair band music of dance music! I was very impressed by the faithfulness from the  Metallica's band members  on playing fascinating music and a thing that would make the music world progress and be innovative, than playing anything that has already been accomplished to produce more revenue!    
Is it true that Metallica is and was not for everybody. Many people usually do not undrstand exactly where rock and roll comes from. There isn't any dance groove, the common ppublic likes the singins melodies if not they're lost, and in  Metallica's music  there's a lot of instrumental passages!    
Then Metallica gor the opening slot for  Ozzy osbourne  all more than the north American tour. I keep in mind for the reason that i was inside the Los Angeles auditorium listening them because the majority with the prople within the audience didn't know what to do with them! Most of the people within the audience had been spellbound!
