Some Simple Ideas to Make Your Plants Vigorous

It's a lot of fun to grow your own plants as a hobby, but you can benefit in other ways - such as having fresh herbs, beautiful flowers, and home-grown vegetables for your table. There are not many things as pleasing to look upon as plants that are grown for their decorative value, whether you use them inside your home or as a delightful outdoor flower garden in which to repose. Our goal with this report is to give you some basic information so your plants will be healthy. There many different things to keep in mind when growing plants.

Before you do any plant buying, think about what kind of lighting conditions you have in the area where you plan to put the plants. If you don't have much sunlight in your yard, apartment or wherever the plant will be kept, don't choose a plant that needs at least 8 hours of direct sun. If you need to augment the light conditions inside your house, LED lighting can be a lifesaver and will give you control over how much light your plants actually get. If you prefer to simply use whatever amount of sunshine you get each day, then be careful where you choose to put your plants. It's simple, really. Choose plants that will grow in the conditions that you have already.

If you are a beginner, take things one step at a time. Don't plan an elaborate, complicated garden as your first project. Even if you're just going to buy plants in pots for inside or outside your house, restrain yourself from buying too many at first. If you buy a lot of plants, it will be harder to account for the care of each plant, and you'll also face the prospect of different plants having different requirements.

Just pick two or three varieties to begin with, and don't buy too many of each plant. For example, a common "beginner" plant is a tomato plant. If you buy a 12-pack of seedlings and put them in your garden, you will have your hands full taking care of them and checking them over for problems each day. It's better to just put out a couple to begin with. Your odds of having successful, healthy plants will increase if you only have a few plants to control and observe.

Two other factors to keep in mind for plant health is the temperature and humidity of your home. This depends, of course, on what their natural environment was. Of course, the easiest plants to grow will be those that are common in the area in which you live; however, it's not unusual for people to want to grow plants that are more exotic. Your average houseplants like to be warm and thrive best if the ambient temperature in your home is between 65 and 75 degrees Fahrenheit. This can vary between plants, however. Another factor relating to temperature is that plants can be damaged if subjected to an extreme temperature change. Check the likes and dislikes of your plants and you may find that some of them may like to have a humidifier in the house. As a general rule, plants don't like dry air, which causes their leaves to crack and become brittle. They prefer a more humid environment. A lot of little factors come into play when you are dealing with a specific plant, but the main things you must get in the right proportion are sunshine (or artificial light), water, and the amount of space each plant needs. It won't take long for you to have the working knowledge you need to give your plants the kind of attention they require to survive. But, at the beginning, make it a priority to look up the best conditions for a new plant you want to include in your garden. If you aren't sure what to do with a particular plant or seeds, talk to the employees at the garden center where you shop. They usually have a lot of information that they are happy to share with you.
